BATIPLAS

Development of an automated friction welding system for the bonding of thermoplastic polymers.

soldadura plastica

The BATIPLAS project aims to develop an innovative system of friction welding of thermoplastic polymers. The solution will consist in an automated, flexible and low-cost system for the welding of complex structures in a wide range of typical joining configurations used in industrial sectors such as plastic boiler making, automotive, construction or shipbuilding. In addition, it will have the ability to be installed in a conventional milling machine or industrial robots, thereby increasing system flexibility and significantly reducing associated deployment costs.

The BATIPLAS project consortium will be made up of six Galician SMEs:

• PROFEPLAS SL and EXLA PLÁSTICOS SL, as final users of the technology to be developed, who, thanks to the project, will have access to a new welding technology with which they can increase the quality of the components they manufacture and, above all, improve the Productivity and robustness of the manufacturing process.

• BASE2, ENGINEERING and DEVELOPMENT S.L, engineering specialized in process automation, will develop adaptive control and process monitoring systems.

• MECANIZADOS OGAL S.L, company specialized in the design, manufacture and installation of special machines and equipment whose mission will be to develop the FSW welding head.

• CERÁMICAS TÉCNICAS GALLEGA S.L, a company with extensive experience in the development of ceramic components, will design and develop specific pins for the welding of thermoplastic polymers.

• AEGA AUTOMÁTICA E ELECTRICIDADE S.L, specialized in the integration of electrical and electronic components, will perform the integration of all the components of the developed system.

The consortium will have the support of the Technological Center AIMEN, with extensive experience in the study of materials and processes of welding, and especially in welding by friction. The specialization, experience and knowledge of these companies in the areas mentioned, provide this Consortium with the technological capacity necessary for the development, validation and implementation of the technological solutions proposed in this project. This project has been supported by the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
